                        RESEARCH AFFILIATES PROGRAM (RAP)

                        Situated in Chiang Mai, Payap University, Thailand’s first private university (established in 1974 with roots going back to 1889), is home to the South East Asian Institute of Global Studies (SEAIGS), a research and study abroad institute focusing on mainland South East Asia.

                        Starting in 2011, SEAIGS will offer a Research Affiliates Program (RAP) Fellowship for scholars working on Southeast Asia.  RAP fellowships allow scholars to conduct research and/or complete work on research projects about a myriad of subjects relating to Thailand or other parts of mainland Southeast Asia.  RAP also enables its affiliates to engage in intellectual exchange with SEAIGS faculty, students, others in the Chiang Mai community as well as in other parts ofThailand and mainland Southeast Asia.  RAP welcomes affiliates each term and fellows can affiliate with SEAIGS for one or two academic terms (4-12 months).  The successful applicant’s research interests may be applied or theoretical and he/she may be involved in any academic field/discipline which SEAIGS faculty members can advise/support.

                        Application Materials

                        A completed application will include the following:

                        1. A curriculum vitae/resume;
                        2. A project title and 1-2 page abstract of the research and writing you will undertake as a RAP Fellow;
                        3. A detailed statement of the research or writing that you will complete as a fellow. The statement should show the project’s objectives, significance, methodology, and how the affiliate’s presence at SEAIGS is essential for the project’s completion. The statement may not exceed ten double-spaced pages, but can include a bibliography;
                        4. An article- or chapter-length writing sample, either published or in manuscript format;
                        5. A brief statement of teaching interests and one-page descriptions of at least two seminars closely tied to your research that would be of interest to RAP Fellows;
                        6. Two letters of recommendation. One letter of endorsement must come from your academic advisor at your sending school or colleague recommendation for faculty members

                        All materials, including recommendation letters, should be submitted no later than March 1 for applicants wishing to begin their fellowship in the Fall semester (August).  For those wishing to begin in the spring, application materials should all be in to SEAIGS by November 1.

                        All materials should be sent to:

                        Payap University
                        South East Asian Institute of Global Studies
